Thanks to its stunning ninth-floor view, Zee's Rooftop Cafe
is both a favorite lunch spot for those in the know and a top-drawer space for swanky events. However, all that action comes with plenty of wear and tear, which is why the cafe will be closed for renovations through Sunday, Jan.14.
Chef Christopher Zahn
, a.k.a. "Chef Zee," said the "upgrades" will include not only basic updates like fresh paint and resurfacing countertops, but the cafe will also get a new automated coffee system, an expanded menu and will host of number of new evening classes.
"This is our only time of year when we can close for 10 days in a row," said Zahn, "Basically, we're just touching up the place. We did 111 events from May through December , plus the cafe in the daytime, so it takes its toll."
Craving a Zee's sandwich? Stop by after Jan. 14.
To underscore reopening the space, Zee's will host a party
to celebrate its fifth birthday on Friday, Feb. 2, complete with trivia, bingo, music, plenty of food—including birthday cake—and a raffle benefiting Chef Zee's Corks 4 A Cure
program, which promotes recycling and has kept more than 300,000 corks out of landfills since its inception in 2010. Youth and adult cooking lessons will also begin in February, and plans for summer yoga, dance and photography classes on the patio are in the works.
