World Refugee Day Slideshow

While a late Saturday in June typically sees thousands of people streaming through the Capital City Public Market in downtown Boise, many of those same visitors ventured to the Grove Plaza June 20 to bear witness to the unique celebration that is World Refugee Day.

“Boise really benefits from having diversity,” said Maria Babushkina, casework supervisor at the Boise office of the International Rescue Committee.

In addition to a naturalization ceremony where 15 refugees became new American citizens, the 2015 edition of World Refugee Day celebration featured dozens of vendors offering food, clothing, art and other goods from around the world. Music and dance performances filled a stage in the middle of the plaza, with performances from the All for One children’s choir and the Mladi Behar Bosnian dance group.

Boise Weekly Art Director Kelsey Hawes captured a number of the images that attendees will not soon forget. Enjoy them by clicking here.
