In both appearance and sound, Wingtips is like a mix between A Flock of Seagulls and The Cure. Its sound is like a time capsule, a band somehow lost to the 1980s. The dream pop duo from Chicago is smooth, easy and captivating. The synth-laden tracks are sure to make just about anyone cut a rug. The band is joined by a few local acts. Sickwish, another band calling back to a time of sexy shirtless vampires and Pepsi Crystal, is a local new wave group. Sickwish's sound is more similar to Joy Division or New Order. The music is considerably more guitar-driven than the night's headliner, but still packs a synth-heavy punch. Before Sickwish comes DJ Joe Black, providing a house music set to kick the night off. DJ Joe Black's music is upbeat and energetic. He's a good way to set the mood for what's to come.
