We love going to the movies, but we’re concerned about runaway ticket prices at the box office.
While a few films are worth seeing at any price, our new weekly online series—"What Are This Weekend's Best Movie Values?"—will weigh the weekend’s selection of movies showing at Treasure Valley cinemas, giving extra consideration to how much audiences have to shell out for a ticket (let alone the concession stand).
Currently, moviegoers are paying $11-$12 per ticket to see a first-run movie (much more for anything in 3-D) at a major cineplex, a couple of dollars less at The Flicks in Boise and significantly less at discount/second-run theaters.
With that in mind, this alternative rating system will score each film based on its quality and the price of admission, with No 1. being the best, No. 5 being one you can take or leave.
An asterisk (*) indicates we gave the movie bonus points because the price of admission is quite reasonable, hopefully leaving you a little extra for snacks.
