While Washington state officials are looking to increase speed limits on their state's highways, the speed limits on two Magic Valley highways are dropping.

KREM-TV reports crews from the Washington Department of Transportation are scouting possible locations to increase the maximum speed limit to 75 miles per hour, including along Interstate 90.

Meanwhile, the Idaho Department of Transportation announced this week it was decreasing the speed limit from 55 mph to 45 mph on Idaho Highways 24 and 27 in Minidoka County. ITD officials pointed to at least 28 crashes on those highways over the past five years, including 17 injury accidents and one fatality.

Two years ago, ITD increased speed limits to 80 mph on Interstates 15, 84 and 86. Only a few months into the change, it was reported that a large number of speeding citations were being issued along Interstate 84.
