Students walked through the doors of the new Whittier Elementary School Monday, the $13.9 million state-of-the-art school built next to the old 1950s-era building that once bore that name.

In March 2017, Boise voters gave overwhelming approval to a $172.5 million bond to fund a long list of renovations and/or replacements, impacting every school in the Boise Independent School District. Construction of the new Whittier Elementary was completed in December 2018, and on Monday, students enjoyed their first day in the building, as captured in this video and slideshow, produced by school staff and officials in the district office.
