After a 5-year-old girl was killed by a loaded firearm while playing with another 5-year-old, an Eastern Idaho couple—parents of the second child and owners of the gun—were charged with misdemeanor injury to a child.

But earlier this week, Bannock County prosecutors decided to conditionally dismiss the charges, following an agreement in which the accused parents will pay approximately $28,000 in restitution to the family of the victim. Additionally, the accused have agreed to complete parenting and gun safety courses and will not be able to possess a firearm for at least two years.

According to KIDK-TV, prosecutors said charges could be revisited if the parents break any of the terms of the deal. Prosecutors added that the parents of the slain child worked closely with attorneys to help draft the terms of the deal.
