Fewer than two months after the 2016 Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival at the University of Idaho, the event's executive director has been fired.
This morning's Lewiston Tribune reports Steven Remington has been let go after serving as the festival's executive director since 2010. A university spokesman wouldn't provide the reason for Remington's termination due to employer/employee confidentiality.
The Tribune reports this year's 49th annual jazz festival attendance was down slightly from last year, but down significantly from six years ago.
"We want a stronger jazz festival," was all Andrew Kersten, dean of U of I's College of Letters, Arts and Social Sciences, would say regarding Remington's ouster.
Meanwhile, the festival's artistic director, John Clayton, remains an employee of the university, according to the Tribune.
