The Magic Valley Arts Council and Twin Falls Mayor Glenda Thompson Dwight announced the winners of the mayor's biennial Awards for Excellence in the Arts. Award recipients were selected from nominations gathered from the community in six different areas of achievement in the arts. The arts council and mayor set criteria for each area of nomination and community members were solicited for nominations of those who excelled in each area. Winners were honored at the arts council's dinner on Friday, September 30, at Blue Lakes Country Club in Twin Falls.
Winners include: Burt Huish for Individual Artist; Huish is a leader in community choral and barbershop. Connie Wood for Arts In Education; Wood has been an art teacher at Twin Falls High School for the past 10 years and is a community leader in arts education. Dilettante Group of Magic Valley for Arts Organization; DGMV is a fine arts organization that has been presenting Broadway shows since 1959. Mike and Jan McBride for Individual Benefactors; the McBrides lend monetary support to the local arts community and have been major contributors to the Magic Valley Arts Council and supporters of many local performing groups and visual artists. Farmer's National Bank for Business Benefactor; FNB has underwritten arts and cultural programs for the Magic Valley Arts Council and the Buhl Arts Council. Martha Mead for Arts Community Leadership; Mead is a local vocalist and organizer of local arts organizations.
