Treefort 2016: Western Mystics Rock an Already-Packed Neurolux

Crowds started building sooner than usual for day one of the fifth annual Treefort Music Fest. When local post-rock band Western Mystics took the stage at Neurolux on March 23, the group played to a packed room.

The relatively young band—it formed in December 2014 as Dos Ojo Terceros—delivered a set that deserved such a large audience.

Travis Abbott and Nik Kososik's weaving baritone guitars, Riley Anne Johnson's spooky keyboard and Brent Joel's forceful drumming shifted between thunderously somber, YOB-like dirges and soothing, dreamy interludes.
