- Snake River Alliance/Solarize the Valley
Solarize the Valley, launched in May by Snake River Alliance, had a modest goal: Enroll 250 homes and businesses for solar panel installation assessments.
Organizer Snake River Alliance on July 12 announced it had far exceeded its own expectations. Since the rollout of the program, more than 310 Treasure Valley households and businesses have enrolled for free installation assessments.
Of the approximately 1 million solar panel installations that have been performed in the United States, less than .01 percent of them have been conducted in Idaho. Solarize the Valley backers hope the project will help Idaho Power customers reduce their dependence on coal-powered electricity by more than 240 kilowatts.
Across the Treasure Valley, more than 150 of those customers have attended Solarize the Valley informational workshops. Others have signed up for the assessments on the program's website.
