Amazon turns 20 this week and to celebrate they've dubbed this Wednesday as "Prime Day" where they promise to announce ridiculous sales as often as every 10 minutes. But of course there's a catch: to be eligible for many of the discounts, shoppers have to have an Amazon Prime membership. Hint: you can still sign up for a 30-day free trial of the service to buy Prime Day deals.
Not giving an inch to its rival, Walmart wants to spoil Amazon's party by offering what it says will be more than 2,000 "rollbacks" on its website. Walmart even went as far as stating on its blog post this morning that "we're standing up for our customers and everyone else who sees no rhyme or reason for paying a premium to save."
"We've heard some retailers are charging $100 to get access to a sale," said Walmart.com CEO Fernando Madeira, referring to Amazon's $99 Prime membership fee.
Meanwhile Amazon is promising Wednesday's sales to "be bigger than Black Friday," in spite of the fact that it's limited to Prime members.
