An Oregon man is behind bars at the Canyon County Jail following an early morning incident in which a Treasure Valley cab driver said he had to stab the Oregon man when the suspect tried to strangle him.

Meridian Police report that the incident occurred at approximately 2 a.m. near the 1300 block of Greenhead Avenue in Meridian. That's where the cab driver said he picked up two men who asked the driver to take them to a residence near Linder Road. The driver told police that when he initially couldn't find the residence, one of the passengers lunged at him and began to strangle him. The driver said he stabbed the suspect in the arm. The passengers eventually jumped out of the cab and ran into a home.

A short time later, Meridian police said they found the suspect in the same neighborhood. They took the suspect to a local hospital for treatment of the stab wounds which police said were non-life-threatening.

After being released from the hospital, 25-year-old Riley Talbot of Merrill, Ore., was booked into the Canyon County Jail on charges of aggravated battery, possession of marijuana and attempted unlawful entry.
