Volunteers are needed to help low- and moderate-income people who can't afford professional tax assistance. The program, run through the Internal Revenue Service, provides some basic training for volunteers, and assistance offices are set up around the valley. Volunteers are especially in demand in the Nampa area, where at least 40 people are needed.
For those who can't do math but still want to help, volunteers are needed to help organize locations and advertise services.
While tax season is the last thing most of us want to think about, volunteer training begins in January, and the tax assistance offices are open 11 weeks beginning at the end of January through April 15. For more information, call Kim Boyack at 208-387-2829 Ext. 258.
