Sub*Vert Opens for Head Automatica • Best of Boise Poll • XFest • Boise Blues Society

by

CORRECTION: According to a reliable source, Head Automatica did not open for Dredg at the Big Easy on July 24. Sub*Vert opened and it was their last show in town for awhile as they are on the road to bigger and better things. Sorry for the mix-up.

For those of you who responded to my last rant regarding voting for your favorite band in the Best of Boise poll, thank you. Due to your concerns, I went and investigated the alleged problems. Apparently, a software switch had not been activated, so favorite band votes were in limbo. The aforementioned switch has now been flipped and all previous votes have been counted. For you procrastinators out there, go to www.boiseweekly.com and vote already.

100.3 The X is putting on a big show September 17 at the Idaho Center: their inaugural XFest. As with any great event, there needs to be some sort of commemorative item so that people will remember the event for years to come. Hence, the XFest T-shirt and T-shirt contest dubbed (and trademarked) The Official X-Fest T-Shirt Thingy. According to the Web site (www.xrock.com/xfest-tshirt.htm), you must use the official XFest logo, but band names are verboten. If you are the winner of the design contest, fame and fortune are sure to follow so get your pencils poised and go to the Web site for more details.

Per a press release from the Boise Blues Society, they are sponsoring a blues talent contest in which the winner will go to Memphis to represent the BBS in the International Blues Challenge January 26 through 28. Interested artists must submit a CD at least 20 minutes long, a short bio and a photograph. All participants must be Blues Society members-you may of course join the BBS. The BBS will follow the rules set forth by the Blues Foundation and a full explanation of those rules may be found at www.blues.org. Entries must be received by September 23, 2005. Mail entries to: Boise Blues Society, PO Box 2756, Boise, ID 83701. Entries will be judged by a panel of local musicians who have all previously competed in the contest. The panel will select three acts that will perform at the BBS annual meeting and the winner will then be determined by the BBS membership as a whole. Contact Don Patterson at 342-7263 or Lori B! at 353-0385 for more information.
