“It’s an event that celebrates the cultures and communities of Boise,” said Wendi Flores, event coordinator for the festival.
The International Food and Culture Festival, to be held inside Boise's Julia Davis Park Saturday, August 1, will feature edibles from Afghanistan, Greece, Vietnam, Japan, and select regions of North America. The Treasure Valley's impressive craft brew scene will be represented by a Sockeye Brewery-hosted beer garden.
“We have a great variety of food from our vendors,” says Flores.
But the festival will include much more than just food: highlights will also include music, performances, and crafts for the kids. In fact, there is major incentive for families to arrive to the festival early, as the first 100 children will receive complementary goodie bags.
But timing and finding an available weekend in Julia Davis Park posed a major obstacle to making the International Food and Culture Festival a reality. Flores said such time constraints often left her scrambling to make things happen in a short time. That said, she's quick to add that that hopes are high for the inaugural festival.
“This is really helping Boise grow as a community,” says Flores. “It’s time we talk about it and who is living here.”
