BW Staff Pick: Best Local African Animal Sanctuary 2018

Zoo Boise Gorongosa Exhibit

staffpick-01.jpg
Zoo Boise's conservation efforts make it the envy of municipal zoos around the world, and about 10 percent of the funds it raises go to the 1,500-square-mile Gorongosa National Park in Mozambique. Now, the Boise zoo is underway with the construction of its own version of Gorongosa Park.

Funding for the ambitious project piles up every time someone walks through the gates. Fifty cents of every admission goes toward Zoo Boise's conservation programs, and a generous chunk of that is going to the Gorongosa exhibit, part of an $8.9 million zoo-wide upgrade. The public should gets its first look at the new exhibits in the summer of 2019.
