- Kevin Sloniker, 30, is accused of the sexual abuse of underage boys.
A former youth camp counselor at a northern Idaho church is in custody, suspected of raping and abusing underage boys in Idaho and eastern Washington.
A long-haul trucker, Kevin Sloniker, 30, of Coeur d'Alene, was arrested in Menomine, Wisc., in September and extradited Oct. 9 to Kootenai County, where he's being held on $1 million bond.
Sloniker is accused of committing the abuse over the course of 10 years, beginning while he was a youth counselor at Immaculate Conception Church in Post Falls, which the Southern Poverty Law Center has identified as part of the Society of Saint Pius X. The Society broke away from the Roman Catholic Church in 1970 when the Second Vatican Council condemned anti-Semitism.
Sloniker was arrested for the rape of two boys, and prosecutors said he was a suspect in the sexual abuse of at least eight others. Some of the abuse allegedly occurred while he was a trucker.
A spokesman for the Society of Saint Pius X would not comment about Sloniker, but called the SPLC's labeling of the sect as anti-Semitic as "completely groundless."
