The deadline for Solarize the Valley, a program designed to help people in the Treasure Valley install solar panels on their homes and businesses, has been extended by two weeks.

"We are not seeing any decline in the number of people that are interested," said Solarize the Valley coordinator Liz Paul. "In fact, it seems like our interest [has been] growing in the last few weeks."

The new deadline to sign up for free solar panel site assessments is Tuesday, Aug. 15. According to Paul, 300 households have signed up for assessments so far this year, and the extension will allow 100 more to register.

Last year, 400 people received assessments, and 49 people signed contracts to have solar panels installed. This year, 14 people have signed contracts and five installations have taken place, but Paul said there's a rising trend of people receiving assessments and liking what they see.

"We're having a little higher percentage of people signing contracts over [this time] last year," she said.

The deadline for signing contracts is Tuesday, Oct. 31.
