Late Idaho Governor Cecil Andrus’ name is found scattered throughout the Gem State. From parks to buildings, his name is nearly ubiquitous. Now, it will be a prominent feature on signage in the White Clouds Wilderness.
Teams from the Idaho Conservation League and Central Idaho Wilderness Stewards installed new signs in the wilderness area between Oct. 6 and Oct. 8 to commemorate its renaming, the Cecil D. Andrus-White Clouds Wilderness.
“The Cecil D. Andrus-White Clouds Wilderness is such a beautiful area in Central Idaho. It’s fitting that it bears Andrus’ name because he did so much to protect these and other public lands throughout Idaho and the U.S.,” ICL Central Idaho Director Betsy Mizell wrote in a release.
Congressman Mike Simpson spearheaded the effort to change the name, which was approved in 2018.
