When: Thu., Sept. 10, 7:30 p.m. 2009
The Idaho Korean Association presents the Shinmyoung Samulnori Team, a professional band from Korea, performing a show celebrating the country's cultural heritage. The stage fills with the sounds of the Samulnori traditions and instruments including Jing and Kkwaenggwari, large and small gongs; Janggu, the Korean hourglass-shaped drum; a Buk (barrel drum) and other drums of all sizes. Musical instruments provide the sound for folk dancers and acrobats as they glide and fly through the air. Samulnori is a Korean folk genre made up of traditional percussion, music and rituals. The traditional practice dates back thousands of years and is performed in farming villages to ensure successful rice harvest. Admission is free; donations to support the Idaho Korean Association are appreciated.
