- Disgraced former Senate candidate Roy Moore has filed a $95 million defamation lawsuit against Sacha Baron Cohen, Showtime and CBS. Moore, who Cohen duped into appearing on an episode of his Showtime program Who Is America? on July 29, now claims the program falsely portrayed him as a sex offender. Attorneys for Moore wrote in the complaint:
This false and fraudulent portrayal and mocking of Judge Moore as a sex offender ... has severely harmed Judge Moore's reputation and caused him, Mrs. Moore [who is also a plaintiff in the case], and his entire family severe emotional distress, as well as caused and will cause plaintiffs financial damage.Though Moore has consistently denied any wrongdoing, the Republican from Alabama lost his Senate race in December after multiple women claimed he had engaged in sexual misconduct with them when they were teenagers and Moore was in his 30s.

- An opinion that appeared in Wednesday's New York Times by an anonymous contributor claiming to be a top Trump administration official has kicked a veritable hornets nest. The opinion describes a "two-track presidency" where the administration corrals, directs and, in some cases, undermines President Donald Trump, who "engages in repetitive rants," is "impulsive" and whose "reckless decisions ... have to be walked back."
From the White House to executive branch departments and agencies, senior officials will privately admit their daily disbelief at the commander in chief’s comments and actions. Most are working to insulate their operations from his whims.Meanwhile, Trump has initiated a White House hunt for the writer of the opinion and reacted to the news on Twitter:
Does the so-called “Senior Administration Official” really exist, or is it just the Failing New York Times with another phony source? If the GUTLESS anonymous person does indeed exist, the Times must, for National Security purposes, turn him/her over to government at once!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) September 5, 2018
