The Idaho Housing and Finance Association has announced the results of the 2017 point-in-time (PIT) count of homeless people in the Gem State, which revealed a 9.3 percent decrease compared to 2016. Volunteers across Idaho coordinating with IHFA and other housing coalitions counted 2,037 individuals experiencing homelessness on a single night—Jan. 25. According to Brady Ellis, vice president of housing and support programs for IHFA, "The severity of January's winter weather complicated the process of conducting this year's count while also underscoring the importance of the team's collective efforts to help shelter the homeless."
J.J. Abrams, the writer/director who helped revitalize the Star Wars franchise with The Force Awakens in 2015, is taking over director responsibilities for Star Wars: Episode IX, Deadline reports. He is replacing Colin Treverrow, who directed Jurassic World. Star Wars: The Last Jedi, the eighth film in the franchise, is slated to hit theaters Friday, Dec. 15.

Kenneth Morehouse has been sentenced to 21 months in prison for a federal gun offense.
Sheriff's deputies were called to a home after receiving a report that a man was threatening to harm himself. When they arrived on the scene, the suspect pointed a gun at a deputy, causing the deputy to fire at him, hitting him in the shoulder. After receiving treatment at a local hospital, Kenneth Morehouse was released into police custody and charged with aggravated assault on law enforcement and use of a deadly weapon during the commission of a crime. On June 21 of this year, Morehouse pleaded guilty to unlawfully possessing a firearm.
