Calls to Artists

Second annual Recycled Art Show Invitational

When: Mondays. Continues through Sept. 1 2008

One person's junk becomes another person's art material. Acceptable recycled media, must contain a minimum of 75 percent recycled/reused/found materials. The criteria for recycled is using elements that were originally manufactured and that would be thrown away if not for creative re-formatting it in a manner or work of art that is different from its intended original use. Suggestions: Old toys, CDs, tin, aluminum, scrap metal, plastic, plywood, machine/techno parts, used building materials, newspapers, magazines. NO dangerous chemicals, compositions etc., and natural elements such as stone or sticks and bones do not qualify. Category specifics: Two-dimensional: framed/frameable works, no larger than 24 inches x 24 inches, with suitable mounting/hanging apparatus supplied. Functional: workable, wearable, fashionable; use your imagination. As long as the work would serve a purpose (i.e. a toy, serving dish, small piece of furniture, mirror). No larger than 36" x 36" and under 50 pounds. Three dimensional/sculpture: Limit work to under 6 feet in height and 200 pounds maximum weight. Prizes for "best of show" will be awarded to the favorite piece chosen by the public. Additional awards given to winners in each of the three categories. Return entry form to Second Chance Building Material Center before August 15, 2008; then bring art work to second Chance retail store at 1405 W. Grove St., anytime on or before Monday, September 1, at 5 p.m. Bidding for the online auction can start early if artists bring work in before August 22, 2008 so it can be listed on the Web site before the fund-raising gala.
