Three years ago, while the inaugural Boise Music Festival was taking over Ann Morrison Park with thousands of music fans pretending it was still 1989, another tiny festival was booming out at a backyard barbecue on the Bench overlooking the park.
One of the acts on that bill was Portland, Ore.'s, Sallie Ford and the Sound Outside. Though the band wasn't a headlining act, its country-influenced take on rock 'n' roll--fronted by the cat-eye-glasses glare of Sallie Ford--immediately stood out.
By the time the band came back to Boise for the inaugural Treefort Music Fest, it had won the hearts of critics nationwide.
Sallie Ford is back to playing a sun-drenched outdoor summer show for Boiseans. And, yes, you better believe it got the headlining slot.
