Roses Are Red, This Is A Blue Valentine

New DVD release

by

The tagline for Blue Valentine is "a love story." But this is no ordinary love story, as some movie buffs may know from the film's history. First and foremost, this is a method acting story--stars Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams became the film's struggling married couple. Before shooting began, the two got to know each other by living together in the style of their characters, meaning they lived with a middle-class income, bought their own groceries, filmed home movies and even took family portraits at Sears. Because of this, the film was praised for its honest, raw performances, with Williams receiving an Oscar nomination for best actress.

While the film's honesty was not as appreciated by the MPAA (who originally gave the film a NC-17 rating), this is one to watch.
