Employees of the Idaho Department of Lands found the remains of a grizzly bear last week on the middle fork of East River just north of the town of Priest River. More than 90 percent of grizzly bear deaths in the Selkirk mountains are a result of illegal poaching. Grizzly bears in the Selkirks are listed as "threatened" under the Endangered Species Act.
A $5,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of the person or persons involved. Callers may remain anonymous and can contact the Citizens Against Poaching hot line at 1-800-632-5999 with information about this incident or others.
