With the release of Love's Miracle (on Ipecac Recordings), which hit streets Sept. 11, noisy rock band Qui sets off on a massive U.S. and European tour with ex-Scratch Acid/Jesus Lizard frontman David Yow joining the fray.
L.A.-based Qui was formed at the beginning of the 21st century by Paul Christensen and Matt Cronk.
If you're not into distortion-laden, punk-basted drum and guitar rock, stay home. If you prefer your music to sneak up and smack you about a bit, you'll want to hear these guys (and get there early because local rockers Bovalexia are opening).
Love's Miracle is a study in experimental simplicity; dirty but not muddy chords, often mumbled, sometimes grumbled vocals and taut drum beats make listening to the album feel like you've accidentally opened a door into a room you really have no business being in, but the guys inside reluctantly invite you to stay. It's a little uncomfortable at first, but the longer you listen, the deeper in you're drawn.
The album includes the single the trio released in 2006, "Today, Gestation" and the b-side "Freeze" to complete the nine tracks that make up Love's Miracle.
Sept. 19., 9 p.m., $8 in advance through TicketWeb. Neurolux, 111 N. 11th, 208-343-0886.
