The family of Oscar-winning actress and Idaho resident Patty Duke has announced plans for her memorial service. Duke died March 29 near her Coeur d'Alene home. She was 69.
The service is scheduled for Saturday, April 16 at 11 a.m., Pacific time, at Lake City Church in Coeur d'Alene. The service is open to the public.
Duke lived in northern Idaho for nearly 25 years. Her manager said the actress succumbed to sepsis from a ruptured intestine.
Duke portrayed Helen Keller in the Broadway and movie versions of The Miracle Worker, which won her an Academy Award at the age of 16. She went on to star as "identical cousins" in The Patty Duke Show in the 1960s and appeared in scores of movies and television programs. She also won three Emmy awards.
Duke, who also used her married name, Anna Pearce, apologized to fans earlier in March for having kept a low profile recently.
"I have been absent, but not far, believe me. I love and miss you all. Hopefully back more soon and often," tweeted the star, who only two weeks ago celebrated 30 years of marriage to her fourth husband, Idaho native Mike Pearce.
