The Idaho Transportation Department's Office of Highway Safety, Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), the Idaho Department of Juvenile Correction's Combating Underage Drinking, and the State Department of Education's Safe and Drug-Free Schools sponsored an annual contest for Idaho high school students to create a clear "no use" and "buckle up" message. The first prize poster was designed by Coeur d'Alene high school student Laura James. Her poster features a mortarboard reading "Safe and Sober" and "Buckle Up and Don't Drink." James' design will be printed on T-shirts and posters in support of celebrating this year's graduation without substance abuse. More than 100 high schools statewide will sponsor alcohol and drug-free events for Celebrate Graduation 2005 using the design.
In addition to a credit on the poster and T-shirt, James received a $200 cash prize. Runner-up winners and prizes include: Jenay Law, $150 second place (Kuna High), Chad Carson, $100 third place (Coeur d'Alene High), and two $50 honorable mentions of Patricia Frantz (Post Falls High) and Brianne Langlitz (Coeur d'Alene High).
