Perch return to Lake Cascade

by

Once the premier yellow perch fishery in Idaho, Lake Cascade has seen a decline in its perch populations since the mid 1990s due to predation by the pikeminnow, poor water quality and disease. But a recent human assisted migration of 193,000 perch weighing 32,300 pounds from Phillips Reservoir near Baker City, Oregon in 28 truckloads might go a long way to restoring the fishery. Idaho Fish and Game worked with the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife plan on doing it again next year.
