La La Land—both the movie and Hollywood itself—got an early morning wake-up call Tuesday and the news was all good. The little musical that has emerged as a box office hit nabbed 14 Oscar nominations, including the much-coveted Best Picture nod. The pile of nominations ties La La Land with Titanic and All About Eve for the most nominations in Academy Award history.

The song and dance film starring Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone will compete with eight other movies for the Best Picture Oscar, including Moonlight, Fences, Hidden Figures, Arrival, Hell or High Water, Lion, Manchester by the Sea and Hacksaw Ridge.

The sci-fi/psychological drama Arrival provided both surprise and disappointment. The film nabbed a total of eight nominations, but its star, Amy Adams was not nominated for Best Actress. Instead, the Motion Picture Academy opted to nominate Ruth Negga for her performance in Loving. In a rather embarrassing pre-dawn glitch, Adams was initially listed as a Best Actress nominee on the Motion Picture Academy's website, but her name disappeared by sunrise.

Another big surprise was Mel Gibson, who fell from grace over the past decade following a series of personal meltdowns. On Tuesday morning, Gibson was nominated as Best Director for his film Hacksaw Ridge, which also secured a Best Picture nod.

The Oscars will be handed out on Sunday, Feb. 26 on ABC-TV.
