The Idaho Office of the Attorney General announced Monday morning that Education Management Corporation—operators of Brown Mackie College and other for-profit higher-ed companies—have agreed to a civil action, including the forgiveness of $504,000 in outstanding debt to 519 former Idaho students.
The AG had alleged "unfair and deceptive recruitment and enrollment practices."
The agreement requires EDMC to create an interactive online financial disclosure tool while barring any future misrepresentations to prospective students. Additionally, the action prohibits EDMC from enrollment in unaccredited programs.
"EDMC's practices were unfair to our state's students and to our nation's taxpayers who backed many of these federal student loans that were destined to fail," wrote Idaho Attorney General Lawrence Wasden.
