Media Titans Heading to Idaho for Allen and Co. Conference

  • Sun Valley Resort
While much of the American business world dials down for the long Fourth of July holiday weekend, the western world's media elite are flying into the Wood River Valley. The attraction is the annual Allen and Co. conference at the Sun Valley Resort, otherwise known as "summer camp for billionaires."

Previous Allen and Co. confabs have served as the setting for some major media deals, and while the list of attendees is never made public, previous invitees have included Warren Buffett, Bill Gates, Rupert Murdoch, Mark Zuckerberg, Groupon's Andrew Mason, Zynga's Mark Pincus, NBC Universal's Steve Burke, Time Warner's Jeff Bewkes, Shutterstock CEO John Oringer, Cloudera CEO Tom Reilly, Pandora Chairman Brian McAndrews, filmmaker Harvey Weinstein, Walt Disney Chairman Robert Iger, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and former New York Mayor/ Bloomberg founder Michael Bloomberg.

“Every year, we fill up [during the summer], but I can see the town seeing more business next week,” Ketchum restaurateur Roderigo Herrera told the Idaho Mountain Express.

The conference is not without conflict. In 2014, Fox News business reporter Charlie Gasparino got "booted" from the Sun Valley Resort, according to the New York Post, after two runs in with security.

"I've never seen a company like Allen and Co. hire a bigger bunch of storm troopers," Gasparino later told the Post.
