Note May 6, 2009

Last Saturday was a busy night for BW staffers. Deanna Darr and Tara Morgan attended the Idaho Press Club awards, where BW collected a truckload of honors and staff writer Morgan was crowned rookie of the year. Though we do enjoy the annual collective pat on the back from our colleagues, it's even better when people beyond the world of journalism take notice of what we're doing here. Nathaniel Hoffman and Sally Freeman were out on BW's behalf collecting awards that didn't require us to submit an application. Hoffman picked up BW's Animo Award from the Hispanic Cultural Center of Idaho for our objective coverage of minority issues while Freeman hobnobbed with co-honoree Mayor Dave Bieter at TVCTV's annual fundraising gala, where the two were among four Boiseans recognized for their commitment to public television. Thank you, readers, for affirming every now and again that we get it right. Now, if only some of those awards offered cash prizes ...
