Last week I had the pleasure of announcing that Boise Weekly is the recipient of a grant to increase diversity within our pages. For the thousands of you who keep up with Boise Weekly on Twitter and Facebook, this may be old news, but for the non-social networkers among you ...
Each year the Association of Alternative Newsweeklies, of which Boise Weekly is a member, offers up to four grants to fund internships for minority students with the goal of increasing diversity in alt journalism.
This year, for the first time, AAN also offered a grant to fund a project, rather than an internship position, with a similar goal.
Boise Weekly was one of only two grant recipients this year. With the $1,250 awarded us, we're implementing a new project and we're looking for a few good bloggers. With some qualifications, of course. Specifically we're looking for a couple of new Americans, those recent Boise arrivals who've been placed in Boise by a refugee agency, to blog regularly about their lives in Boise. It's a modest-paying gig, so if you are someone or know someone who fits the bill, the deadline to apply is Wednesday, April 1. Call BW headquarters for more information at 208-344-2055.
