Note December 24, 2008

I recently got into a heated debate with a friend over whether it's acceptable to say "Merry Christmas" to everyone, including people you don't know, who may or may not celebrate Christmas. In a nutshell, she argued that it was a safe bet that most Boiseans celebrate the Christian holiday, which therefore justified her enthusiastic Christmas well-wishing. I disagreed.

Not everyone in BW's newsroom celebrates Christmas, and certainly not everyone who does adheres to the religious part of the holiday, preferring instead to reach back to the holiday's pagan roots. Bunch of damn liberals, we are.

The one thing we all have in common at BW is memory, and for this, the issue of Dec. 24, we've decided to revisit those memories, be they good, bad or ugly.
