Idaho State Senator Shawn Keough and her husband Mike have sold their home in the northern Idaho community of Kootenai. That's not big news but when they pulled up stakes in Kootenai, Mike Keough, the city's mayor for three-and-a-half years, had to resign.

This morning's Coeur d'Alene Press reports Keough's hand-picked, City Council President Nancy Lewis, will hold the office until November, voters will decide who should be Kootenai's next mayor. Lewis has already indicated that she wants to run for the office; but her departure from the City Council leaves another vacancy, a post the council will need to fill sooner than later.

Mike Keough told the Press he's retired, he and his wife are empty-nesters and they wanted to move to lakefront property outside of Kootenai.

Sen. Shawn Keough, first elected to represent Idaho 1st District in the Idaho Senate in 1996, is Vice Chair of the Senate Finance Committee and is a member of the Senate education and transportation committees.
