'Tis the season to drop weird stuff out of the sky. In Bartlesville, Okla., it's a giant olive. Temecula, Calif., drops grapes. Sarasota, Fla., lowers a big pineapple. In Boise, it's a giant potato.
Now in its third year, the New Year's Eve Idaho Potato Drop is making a change in venue. It's moving to Capitol Park—the big spud will drop in front of the Idaho Statehouse—and bringing with it five main stage musical acts, food, drink, a variety of vendors and a massive fireworks display. Comedian Sean Hancock will serve as emcee throughout the evening, with musical locals Bread and Circus, Jupiter Holiday, Matt Hopper and the Roman Candles, and Steve Fulton Music on the main stage from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Ring in the new year with Eugene, Ore., rock jammers Blue Lotus from 10:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. VIP entertainment includes DJ Justin Case and magic from Kipp Sherry. For those who want to party down downtown, Uber is offering free rides for all. Use the code POTATODROP15 for $25 toward a ride when you sign up.
