Less than a week after the city of Ketchum announced it would begin water restrictions, the Sun Valley Water and Sewer District approved its own lawn-watering restrictions for its customers.
This morning's Idaho Mountain Express reports the restriction will begin in July and continue through August. For single-family homes where addresses end in an even number, watering will be allowed on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Homes where addresses ending in an odd number will be allowed on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday. In all cases, watering will be restricted to the hours between 6 p.m. and 10 a.m.
First-time violators of the new rules will be given a written warning. Second-time violators will be hit with a $100 fine and third-time violators may see their irrigation water cut off with a $500 fee to turn it back on.
The city of Ketchum previously announced sprinkling and watering of lawn and gardens would not be allowed between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. until Sept. 1. Ketchum officials said residents who use drip- or bubbler-style irrigation systems may get a special exemption.
