When: July 27-Aug. 28 and Fri., Aug. 7 2009
July 27-Aug. 28. New Paintings: Ashley Collins. The process of application is apparent in Collins' work resulting in hidden or obscured imagery as well as the figurative incorporation of animals, human and invocation of text. The artist uses materials such as paper aged in her studio which give the effect of yellowed, aging texts and ancient surfaces painted into the works. The use of resin provides depth and a tactile quality that is created by a meticulous course of layering and torching the surface. The result is canvases, which at times include in excess of thirty layers. See the artist's work during the gallery stroll on Friday, Aug. 7.
