•Singer/songwriter Andrew Kurtz divides his time between Boise and the East Coast, but he may be spending even more time here when, after his gig at the downtown Thomas Hammer coffeeshop, people get a chance to see and hear him and start asking for more.
In November 2005, Kurtz' song "Stairways"from his album Evening Songgarnered him a spot on Song of the Year (www.songoftheyear.com), a proud supporter of VH1's Save the Music program. His emotional, melodic voice and interesting, sometimes surreal lyrics make Kurtz's music an easy listen. You'll find yourself hooked on his hooks.
So, drop your tax returns off at the post office and then head down and check out the show this Saturday at 7 p.m. You can enjoy a smooth cup o' joe and the equally smooth sounds of Andrew Kurtz.
April 15, 7 p.m., FREE, Thomas Hammer downtown, 298 N. 8th St.
•From our Web dude, Phil: "We've been trying to implement music downloads on our site without making it a dumping ground for a bunch of poopy MP3s. We thought about calling it 'Song of the Day,' but we have serious commitment issues, and an everyday sort of thing isn't very realistic (we are a weekly after all). So we came up with 'BW Mixtape,' where we will periodically compile a playlist of songs for your downloading pleasure. It won't be restricted to local artists, but they will definitely be in there as well." Phil rocks. Go to www.boiseweekly.com and click on the "BW Mixtape" image.
