I'm expecting a baby in May. We decided not to find out the sex of the baby. We are stuck between names. We have "Paxton" or "Callum" with the middle name "Jamison" for a boy. Girls we have "Magnolia" or "Elenora," with "Charlotte Rose" as the middle name. What do you suggest?
-Sincerely, Baby Business
DEAR BABY BUSINESS,
Congratulations to you! I believe that there is some class and excitement in waiting to discover the sex of the child. I started reading this question and I was worried it was going to be about those awful, tacky "gender reveal" parties. I am pleasantly surprised that it is about names! Once, years ago, another reader wrote in about what to name their twins on the way, and since I already suggested some combination of country music legends and "Minerva Jayne," I will spare you the same suggestion! If your baby is assigned male at birth, I prefer "Paxton Jamison." "Paxton," meaning "peaceful farm," has a great deal of charm and "Pax" is a cute nickname. As for the girl name, I love both of them, with a preference for "Magnolia." There is a dignity and beauty in a name that sounds a bit old-fashioned, but also conjures up the fragrant gentility of one of my favorite flowers. Now that you have my two cents, good luck with deciding which names you go with. Of course, if it is too hard to decide between "Magnolia" and "Elenora," there is still "Minerva."
