Woo-hoo! Idaho natives Micky and the Motorcars will rock the stage at Tom Grainey's on Friday, touring in support of their newest release, Careless.
Micky and Gary Braun make up part of this band of merrymakers. Micky and Gary's older brothers are Cody and Willy Braun, members of country music darlings Reckless Kelly and the four of them are all kin to the Braun Brothers. But with Careless, Micky and the Motorcars have shown they can hold their own. Careless is either a rock album with country twang or a country album with a rock and roll kick, but either way, it's an energetic CD with rockin' guitar licks and sweet and simple lyrics sung in Micky's signature smoky voice. The title track is a bittersweet song with heavy guitar and heart-heavy lyrics. "Carolina Morning" is pure country both musically and lyrically: When I left you my poor old heart was breaking/because I know your love for me is right/but the sun'll rise on you in Carolina/and it'll set on me in Tennessee tonight. "Rock Springs to Cheyenne" is a tune about how tough life on the road can be and how sometimes the only thing a man can depend on is a wing and a prayer.
Careless is a collection of heartfelt tunes that would make for a great road trip CD. But don't just take my word for it. Get down to Grainey's and see them live. If these guys rock in person even half as hard as they do on disc, it's going to be one hell of a night. Actually, two nights, as these guys will be at Grainey's on both June 16 and June 30.
June 16, 9 p.m., $5, Tom Grainey's, 109 S. 6th St.
