Voters in McCall are voting Tuesday on whether to increase their resort community's minimum wage in increments, from the current $7.25 per hour up to $20.25 by Jan. 1, 2018, with adjustments. based on the consumer price index in succeeding years.
Meanwhile, the McCall Star-News is reminding voters how critical one vote is, particularly in off-election years when there is no race for president or governor on the ballot.
In an editorial in its most recent edition, the Star-News chronicles a 1989 proposal to develop a downtown lakefront park, which current visitors to McCall enjoy every day.
The proposal came with a $1.1 million price tag and an increase in property taxes. Ultimately, 318 voters said "yes" to the proposal—one more than the necessary votes required to pass the measure.
