Many of us can trace our interest in the literary arts back to the moment when a thoughtful librarian took the time to make a book recommendation that sent us off with a lifelong love of books. (I remember Mrs. Miesbach handing me a copy of Rebecca like it was yesterday...)
Maybe Mayor Dave Bieter had a similar experience. Either way, this week, the mayor recognized librarian Linda Brilz as the 2005 Boise City Employee of the Year. Brilz works in the children's department at Boise Public Library and was recognized for her dedication as a library employee. She managed to bring in over $400,000 from sponsors as incentives for children to read and participate in this year's Treasure Valley Libraries Summer Reading Program, as well as helping with the Library Card Sign-Up project in many local elementary schools, serving on Boise's Read the Same Book committee and creating teen programs in local libraries.
