The Critical Incident Task Force, with the Boise Police Department taking the lead, will be investigating an overnight incident that left a Boise man dead after being shot by Ada County sheriff's deputies.

Law enforcement officers were summoned to the 1000 block of West Spring River Street in Meridian just before 11 p.m. on April 28. That's where witnesses told deputies they were worried about the mental health of a man inside a nearby home. According to the neighbor, the man inside had a gun.

Deputies said the front door was ajar when they arrived, so they called into the house and heard someone moving around inside. According to official reports, the man appeared on the stairs of the home and pointed a handgun at the deputies. Both deputies fired their weapons and, a short time later, the man died at the scene.

The victim's identity has not yet been released and investigators are still trying to determine how many shot were fired.
