Krispy Kreme locations around the country, including the one at 1525 N. Eagle Road in Meridian, will offer a special gingerbread doughnut on the big day made with a spiced cinnamon and ginger dough, and smothered in sweet gingerbread molasses glaze—a combination as mouthwatering as it is festive.
“I would imagine [the reaction from the community] is probably going to be pretty big, because we’ve never done anything like this before," said Derrick Smith, manager of the Meridian Krispy Kreme.
Smith hasn't tried the new flavor yet (the Meridian location has a trial run planned) but he's as excited as anyone, and guesses this foray into holiday specials is the brainchild of JAB Holding Company, which acquired the doughnut chain for $1.35 billion in 2016.
"They’re doing a whole bunch of new things, so it’s a good possibility that we’ll be doing more one-day-only events like this," Smith said. "The more word of mouth that gets out, the bigger the event’s going to be. We definitely expect that [in] the morning as well as the evening time we’ll probably get quite a [lot] of people wanting to get in and try it."
In other words, it's time to raise your coffee to National Gingerbread House Day—and get ready to join the Krispy Kreme line for that heavenly bite.
