When residents chose to settle in the picturesque community of Hulen Meadows, along the Big Wood River northwest of Ketchum, they expected to see an abundance of wildlife. What some residents said they didn't expect was how close to their homes some of that wildlife would be gunned down.
This morning's Idaho Mountain Express reports Hulen Meadows residents took their complaints to a Nov. 18 quarterly meeting of the Idaho Fish and Game Commission, telling commissioners five elk were shot near their subdivision in 2013, three in 2014 and two so far in 2015.
"We're concerned about the safety of the residents and the children," said Hulen Meadows Homeowners Association President Donna Finegan, adding, "This has got to stop, and it has to stop before someone gets hurt or killed."
IDFG Director Virgil Moore promised residents his regional staff will sit down with Hulen Meadows homeowners to discuss the issue, but preferred to avoid using "the heavy hand of regulation," according to the Mountain Express.
