Eating for the Hungry

Though titled "A Chefs' Affaire," the seventh annual event presented by Sysco Food Services of Idaho, is for the public and restaurant professionals alike. This is the Idaho Foodbank's largest fund-raiser, which helps raise $150,000 to distribute back into the community to feed the poor. A good cause for a good deal-$85 treats diners to a five-course gourment meal prepared by teams of chefs from 19 different restaurants, with Idaho wine complementing each course. This year's menu includes Kobe beef carpacio; marinated artichoke hearts and shaved radicchio with citrus vinaigrette; pan-seared pistachio crusted Idaho ruby trout with fresh dungeness crab; smoked pork tenderloin and chocolate nougatine for dessert.

The silent auction will feature a wide array of dining packages, merchandise and services from restaurants, caterers, wineries, hotels and retailers around town, and the raffle, featuring additional goodies will ensure some visitors will have more to show for the night than a satiated palate. Guests may also bid to support the new Backpack Program, an innovative idea which sends "kid friendly" food home every month with children whose families need assistance. Idaho singer-songwriters Steve Eaton and Billy Braun will provide live music throughout the evening.

This is the chance for participating businesses to strut their stuff to their most discriminating clientele, so be prepared to be pampered in the name of hunger relief.
